JAM + RICO
For as long as she can recall, Jam + Rico owner and designer Lisette Scott felt a strong connection between herself and her family's Caribbean culture. With immigrant grandparents from the islands of Jamaica and Puerto Rico, she was always curious about their upbringing and the traditions from their respective homelands.
Growing up, she recalls the most prominent connections to her ancestry being the food and music in her home... A little salsa and reggae with a mix of arroz con pollo, pastelles, jerk and curry were favorites within her home.
Once Lisette got older and was able to travel to both islands, the fascination and love of her heritage grew even stronger. The colors, carnivals, art, beaches and language all inspired her to create and design. Her travels convinced her that she needed to design in order to deepen her connection to her ancestors and Jam + Rico (Jamaica and Puerto Rico) was born.
